Grade Subject/Level: English 9 and Read 180 Years of Experience: 4 Favorite Tech Tools: Edmodo, Weebly, Twitter, Quizlet, CPS, Class Dojo. Troubleshooting: Because I teach 9th grade, a problem I often encounter is students who are just unfamiliar with technology and basic computer skills. I spend the first couple of days of class in "Garst Boot-Camp" where I teach my students how to use the technology we have available in our class. They learn how to use Edmodo, the COW laptops, and where to find the resources they have available in school and at home. This saves me valuable class time later to focus on instruction rather than learning to use the technology. How often do I use technology in my classroom? Using technology in my classroom is an important part of most of my lessons, and I attempt to use some form of it every single day. My students use the laptops from the COW carts at least 2-3 times a week, and some weeks they use them every day. In my class, the technology doesn't stop at the door. My students use Edmodo for most of their homework assignments and get daily class information from Twitter. I like to create a culture for learning and digital citizenship that continues even when my 90 minutes a day with the students are finished. |

When you have 30 computers and 35+ students you have two options: avoid technology or find an alternative route. The ability to have students with smart phones use apps instead of laptops has saved tremendous amounts of time and solved accessibility issues. How often do I use technology in my classroom? I try to use some form every day. My students start each lesson using CPS clickers, and they are on the laptops at least twice a week. I'm constantly experimenting with new web tools, and I know there are more apps out there that I could be using every day for vocab, grammar, writing, literacy, etc... |
